RIVER GANGA
CLEANLINESS DRIVES
BY NAMAMI GANGE &
TREE CRAZE FOUNDATION
Clean water is our basic necessity and I have been continuously engaged in cleanliness drives arranged on regular basis by Tree Craze Foundation under Namami Gange program. It is an initiative undertaken by the government of India to keep India's biggest river basin clean and green.
My work with this organisation got featured on 'Rag Rag Mein Ganga,' a program undertaken to show work done in this field. This programme is featured on DD national, India's official television channel.
It gives me immense satisfaction to spread awareness about this drive in my school and in my community.
This has become an important part of my life.
The Drive, Tree Craze foundation and I got featured on National television "Doordarshan" and Namami Gange’s popular travelogue series ‘Rag Rag Mein Ganga’ Season 2, episode 9, hosted by the talented Rajeev Khandel.
Rag Rag Mein Ganga is a series based on rejuvenation of Ganga and it was such a pleasure to shoot for it and recognised by the same.
DIL SE... DRIVE
(STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART)
I started a drive called "DIL SE" in 2019-20 and acted as a medium between Have and Have-nots. under this I place cartons in the school foyer and ask children to donate things like stationery, books, clothes, toys, that are of no use to them but still in usable condition. In the same manner, I also collect these things from my neighbourhood and relatives and distribute them in slum areas. I have collected almost 50-60 cartons and distributed them. People donated a lot of things during Coronavirus lockdown also. It gives me immense satisfaction by seeing smiles on children faces while distributing. Kids are so eager to take books and stationery to study along with toys and clothes. My drive was covered by two leading newspapers of Delhi, India.
UPHAAR NGO
UPHAAR NGO specializes in imparting reading, writing skills to underprivileged children. After teaching them until elementary level, kids are sent to a government school for further education. I have been associated with this NGO since December 2018. I have been continuously going there, and I gave them a small talk about child trafficking, child rights, hygiene and health, Green Diwali, Air pollution, etc
In 2020 I couldn't visit NGOs but got through them via zoom and told them how hygiene is essential during this pandemic, how they can keep themselves safe, and why wearing masks is necessary.
Also I with the help of my parents, family n friends, I raised a fund of Rs. 11600 in cash and many things in kind. I was awarded the BEST FUNDRAISER AWARD.
It feels great to provide psychological and educational support to these children. I really felt warm when I saw all of them bubbling with smiles and laughter.
PRATYeK AND NINE IS MINE
I work closely with PRATYeK and NINE IS MINE ORGANISATIONS WHO recognizes children as primary stakeholders of the society and coordinates a larger network of child rights organizations and networks with a presence in practically every state and union territory of India. Here we believe that while children set out to learn the principles embedded in the CRC, they would also be engaged in affecting national level changes as equal and active citizens TODAY.
I am a constant volunteer for their activities related to children and climate. I have collected books from various sources and donated to them, as this organisation provides free education to children. Also, it gave me immense pleasure when I introduced them to the concept of MUN and took 16 of their children free of cost to school Mun by providing them with sponsorship. The children were so happy to be engaged in a new activity.
I was nominated by them for KIDS RIGHTS CHOICE AWARDS.
IHW COUNCIL - SPEAKER
Integrated Health & Wellbeing (IHW) Council is a premier think tank, engaging in everything concerned with the health and wellbeing of human enterprise and existence. During the pandemic, I got the chance to speak for their three live events on Facebook and be a constant associate with them. It was an honour to speak on the same platform where specialists from all over India are listening to you. I spoke on the topics of pollution, how doctors have helped in coronavirus times, sustainable development.

I have become an active volunteer in the Rohini branch, Delhi, which is managed by Dr Kushwaha who is a specialist in homoeopathy medicine. I organised food and stationery contribution events throughout for the underprivileged children of the NGO. It is a great association.
CRY - CHILD RIGHTS & YOU
CRY, India’s most trusted NGO, has been working towards creating happier and healthier childhoods for the last 40 years. I did a volunteering program with this NGO for spreading awareness about child rights. In COVID times, through online fundraising, I was able to collect the amount INR 5100. Also, I took a pledge to:
(i) never employ children as domestic help.
(ii) proactively report any child rights violation.
UN - KARO SAMBHAV (E-waste management NGO)
This 15-day workshop was organised by the UN on Sustainable Development Goals set by UNGA. With 15 students from classes 6 to 9, We got to know about various new environment-friendly concepts like EPR (extended producers responsibility), PRO (producer’s responsibility organisation), and eco-friendly electronic devices. Each individual was given an SDG goal and we were expected to speak about government activities and what student can do on their behalf.
Also, we were assigned to discuss the lifecycle of different objects, their problems, how they are currently recycled and what changes should be brought to improve the current system. I picked up plastic bottles as they are of major concern and the greatest pollutants of land and sea. On the final day, we held an assembly in the zero periods regarding EPR and PRO.
We also held a rally in which we carried banners across the school corridors spreading awareness about what we had learnt. Our final task was filling a petition to the water department regarding the need for safe drinking water and the removal of pollutants from water. We even uploaded this to the UN forum. This was a very enriching and memorable experience for me.
BE MY EYES
I am volunteering to be a member of Be My Eyes App. This is a free app that connects blind and low vision people with sighted volunteers and company representatives for visual assistance through a video call. The volunteer will help to solve the problem of blind or low vision user, who may need help from checking expiry dates, distinguishing colours, reading instructions or navigating new surroundings. I feel honoured and proud to have helped some people with this thing as I believe that such small acts of kindness will make the world a better place to live in and will surely leave a global impact.
DECOMPOSITION BIN
To reduce the amount of waste at landfills I decided to do my bit and I came up with the concept of decomposing bin. In this, I made a bin which will use up all wet waste and convert it into compost. It is very effective and can be managed very easily. I was also interviewed by a social reformer Mr Hira Yogi who has lots n lots of followers on YouTube and Facebook regarding the same. He was very inspired by this. I am really happy that I could come up with such an innovation. I also want to show the making of this bin in all school so that other boys could also get inspired by this.
